ROOM 6 NEWS

It is hard to believe that we are beginning of our last month of the school year! We have had a busy and exciting month so far, with the signs of spring blooming all around us! Two of our favorite science experiments have been completed in the last couple days: 1) Our green beans sprouted and once they were 3 inches tall, they were sent home to plant. 2) Our caterpillars emerged from their cocoons as beautiful butterflies! We provided them with sugar water, flowers and orange slices until their wings got strong enough to fly. Once they were ready, we took a “field trip” up to the girl’s school butterfly garden and let them go!
We have also completed our study on weather. We learned about the many types of weather, and the benefits that each type provides us. We made our own rain sticks and pin wheels as we listened to the many sounds that weather makes. We especially liked the sounds of a thunderstorm and the sounds of the waves at the beach. We also identified the four seasons, and the types of weather that occur in each season.
We are beginning a theme week focusing on the author Eric Carle. We will be sharing many of his stories with the class, and providing an art experience for a few of our favorites.
We will then experience life “under the sea” by learning more about the ocean, the beach and the animals that live in or around oceans.
During the last week of school, we will have a different “FUN DAY” each day, with themes such as camping day, pajama day and water play day. We will be sending out more specific information about this as we get closer to that time.

Wednesday, May 22nd is our annual family picnic. All families are invited to attend. The event occurs from 5:00-7:00 p.m. AN RSVP IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND THIS EVENT …. PLEASE RSVP BY MAY 15TH BY SIGNING UP OUTSIDE OF OUR CLASSROOM. SCHOOL CLOSES AT 5:00 ON THIS DAY SO THAT TEACHERS MAY ATTEND.
